Ivy Biomedical Systems, a privately-held Branford medical device manufacturer, has received approval to build a research and corporate headquarters building near the town’s border with Guilford and North Branford.

Branford’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans for the roughly 30,000 square foot building at 819-841 East Main St. earlier this month. The  principals of the limited liability company that submitted the plans were James Biondi of North Haven, who is listed as president of Ivy Biomedical Systems and Thomas Abbenante of Guilford, who is identified in public documents as a founder of the company, which was launched in 1984

Ivy Biomedical is currently located 11 Business Park Drive, which is located just off Interstate 95 near the Stony Creek interchange.

The new facility will be built on a site of just over nine acres off of Route 1 that used to be an apple orchard. The bulk of the land the new facility will be built on is located in Branford.
